In a state that boasts a hundred miles of wilderness as a recreational activity, it may seem like a challenge to find anything outdoorsy that doesn’t require ten pounds of gear. Maine certainly offers tons of adventurous choices, those of us with smaller outdoor ambitions should not fret! There is plenty to do outside without even breaking a sweat. Here are a few ideas for outdoorsy things that almost anyone can do in a day.

Fort Williams Park is not just Portland Head Light. The 90 acres associated with the park are great for enjoying the outdoors of Southern Maine. A number of improvements are in the works, which will make this area even more educational and fun.

If you love the view, but hate the sweat, Cadillac Mountain's summit is for you. Drive three and a half miles up the Summit Road, get out of the car and enjoy the view without the effort.

The gardens, Maine's most well-known, provide visitors the chance to enjoy not only flowers but also sculptures, waterfalls and woodland areas. During Memorial Day Weekend, Mainers with a state ID get free admission during "Maine Days."

It's possible to explore Acadia without strapping on your hiking boots. Head to the John D. Rockefeller Jr carriage roads constructed between 1913 to 1940. This system of roads and stone bridges is meant only for non-motorized traffic and are a beautiful way to experience Acadia without all the exertion of some of the more serious trails.

Sebago is the deepest lake in Maine and definitely one of the most fun. With its easy access to swimming, boating and exploring, it's perfect for families and anyone looking for a laid back, fun day. The more adventurous can investigate Frye Island, located in the center of the lake. It is accessible only by boat during the summer months. Alternately, you can re-enact "Frye's Leap" based on the legend of Captain Frye. While trying to escape a Native American tribe in Portland, he came to a rock that he was unable to go around. Instead, he decided to leap into the waters of the lake and swim across.

Mackworth Island is easy to get to by car and even easier to explore on foot. The trail leading around the perimeter provides gorgeous views of the surrounding water and allows for easy exploration inland as well.

Started by Bernard McLaughlin in 1936, McLaughlin Garden and Homestead has now been open for about 70 years. The garden is about two acres and is now owned by a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the historic home, barn and garden for the public. You can visit between May to October for no charge. This year's Lilac Festival will take place May 27th to 30th - a beautiful way to enjoy Memorial Day Weekend.

While not exactly an outdoor activity, we couldn't resist including this easy way to see the entire world. The DeLorme Headquarters in Yarmouth is home to Bertha, the world's largest rotating globe. She is a 3-D scale model of the earth, including accurate mountains and landforms.

Enjoy island life the way it should be enjoyed - easily! After arriving at Peaks Island, you'll come to Mike's Carts. Rent a cart and take in all the views the island has to offer in about an hour. If you're a bit more adventurous, you can navigate your cart to a number of different spots (all laid out on a map provided by Mike) to get out and explore. The Spurwink River in Scarborough is a great option. Put in and paddle your way to Higgins Beach and enjoy a day at the seaside.
