One of the best things about Maine is the local vibe. From local farm-to-table food to local home brews, it’s easy to make sure all dollars go towards supporting local business and, more importantly, jobs. One of the easiest ways to support local business in Maine is to wake up with beans roasted right here in Vacationland.
This list of local coffee shops will keep you going all day long! Also, it’s important to remember that we love them all and this list is in no particular order.
This mid-coast mainstay is consistently rated among the best in the area. They began in 1992 as a part of Second Read Books and Coffee before expanding into a much larger space. Since 1999, they have roasted their own beans. Located at:

There's lots on offer here - from drip to pour over. There are two locations - one in Stonington open during the season and the other year-round in Deer Isle. Come for the coffee, but stay for the good vibes and friendly smiles.

The coffee at Others! is 100% fair trade and organic and the treats are a delicious variety of gluten-free, vegan and your regular decadent "everything included" variety. The best part of this centrally located shop is that it is completely non-profit. All profits go towards a variety of charitable causes at home and abroad. And bring your pup - they're dog friendly! If you're passionate about supporting local and independent...well, everything - this is the place for you! In addition to tirelessly promoting local authors, artists, and artisans, the Owl & Turtle hosts poetry readings, author readings and signings, book release events, a writers group and various craft and maker events. And, of course, their coffee is top notch! The locally-roasted coffee is served alongside locally-blended teas, and all baked goods are made in their cafe. We just had to include two Portland coffee shops on this list. In fact, there were so many great ones to choose from, it was hard to limit ourselves, but Arabica's spot is well-deserved. With a small, cozy location near Monument Square and a second, larger one near the Old Port where the beans are roasted, there's a vibe for everyone. In addition to great coffee, Arabica serves up tons of baked goodies and lunch foods, which will make it easy to spend the day caffeinated and full. Here's an insider tip from us - if you head to the smaller location on Free Street and want one of their homemade sandwiches, get there before 1pm or you'll be out of luck. If you prefer your coffee with a side of fun gifts to buy, you should definitely check out Inner Eye in Rangeley. Grab an espresso and sit at one of the window stools for a great view of Main Street. While we can't exactly vouch for this place just yet (it opens this month) we had to include it on the list out of sheer curiosity. There are so many questions - why Sunday River? And who knew he loved coffee so much?
