Louisiana has no shortage of waterfront towns. Bayous, lakes, rivers and swamps are all around this beautiful state of ours, and we’ve got some of our favorite waterfront towns that are perfect for a day trip.

A day spent in Louisiana’s oldest settlement is always a good idea. The Cane River Lake flows through downtown Natchitoches and provides a beautiful view from the restaurants nearby.

Grand Isle is known for being a fishing town, but even if you’re not the fishing type, there’s still tons to do. Visit Grand Isle State Park for beautiful walking trails, a lovely little beach on the Gulf, and excellent birdwatching opportunities.

Flanked by Prien Lake, the Calcasieu River, and of course, Lake Charles, there are several activities on the water to keep you occupied. Spend the day on a boat, rent a kayak and explore the waters at your own pace, or just lay out on the beach.

Known as the Crawfish Capital of the World, Breaux Bridge is filled with charming shops, historic buildings, and delicious Cajun food. Take the walking tour, which begins at the Bayou Teche Visitors Center where you can walk onto the wharf and enjoy a scenic view of Bayou Teche. Along the walk you’ll encounter historic buildings like the Old Bank Building and the Jules Broussard Building, both 100-year old buildings with fascinating histories behind them.

It’s hard to name one of these cities without naming the other. The Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets have more then 70 retail stores and restaurants right on the riverfront in Bossier City.

Located in the North Central region of the state, Farmerville is filled with rolling hills and beautiful views. Lake D’Arbonne is a 15,000-acre lake filled with bass, crappie, and catfish. Lake D'Arbonne State Park has tennis courts, boat and canoe rentals, a swimming pool and more.

Visit our state’s capital for a day full of fun. Downtown Baton Rouge has several shops, restaurants, and bars as well as many historic buildings to explore. Talk a walk on the levee and admire the Mighty Mississippi, or tour the USS Kidd.
