Open-style kitchens have become more popular over recent years, especially for upscale eateries. Traditionally, these open kitchens are pretty commonly found in diners all across America, and there’s one special diner that’s known for its open concept, delicious food, and service that will make you feel like one of the family. Today, we’re checking out Camellia Grill In Louisiana, a historic restaurant that you’re going to love.
Nestled underneath canopies of ancient oaks on Carrolton Street, Camellia Grill might just be New Orleans’ most beloved diner.
The restaurant has been serving up classic diner food with a flair since 1946. Here’s how much locals love Camilla Grill: after Hurricane Katrina, Camellia Grill was closed for about 20 months. During that time, hundreds of notes were posted all over the front door, all from locals who missed them and wanted to see its triumphant return.
The inside is a small, counter-serve-style diner that quickly fills up during peak times.
The staff is known to be a part of the experience. Many of the staff members have been there for decades. One of the most famous waiters at the grill was Harry Tervalon, Sr. He was the first waiter hired back in 1946 and worked there until his retirement in 1996. He even came back for the ribbon-cutting ceremony when the diner reopened after Katrina.
Between the staff and the menu, you really can't lose here.
Check out the Camellia Grill website for more information, and don’t forget to give them a follow on Facebook, too!
