Louisiana is no stranger to incredible restaurants. Chefs come from all over the globe for the opportunity to learn our unique cuisine and people travel from near and far just to get a taste. When you have a state that’s so food-centric, even the greatest restaurants can seem to blend together after a while. What sets this eatery apart from all the rest is not only the food, but also the incredible atmosphere. This historic warehouse restaurant is truly one-of-a-kind and is worthy of a road trip from any corner of the state.
The Steamboat Warehouse might just be the most unique restaurant in Louisiana. Located in the town of Washington, this delightful hidden gem has been around in 1977, but the building it is housed within is much older.
Nestled along the banks of Bayou Courtableau (formerly the Opelousas River), construction of the building was completed in 1823. It served as a major hub for transporting manufactured goods down the river until trains became the preferred method of transportation.
Of the original seven warehouses that operated on the bayou, the Steamboat Warehouse is the only one still standing - but it wasn’t without a major labor of love to keep it that way.
From the moment you walk in, you'll feel like you're taking a step back in time. The rustic atmosphere gives off nostalgic and welcoming vibes, perfect for a casual evening with friends.
Of course, you’ll find several Louisiana staples like seafood platters, oysters, and soft-shell crabs on the menu, as well as several unique dishes that you won’t be able to find anywhere else.
