Driving down the main streets of this town, you wouldn't guess that it's one of the most unique places in Louisiana. To start with, the town has kept a steady population of close to 13,000 since 1960.
The town has been incorporated in the United States since before the Civil War, in 1839.

The town is actually rich in so much history, having its own newspaper since the 1850s. Currently, it's served by the Minden Press-Herald, which offers up the news surrounding the town.
There are actually a large number of homes and buildings on the National Registry of Historic Places.

The town also has rich culture. One of the most fascinating aspects of the town is the way that they keep in touch with their German roots.

The town was established by Charles H. Veeder, who named the town after the German town of Minden. This is where the history really gets interesting.
Alongside the town, a unique utopian community was led by the Countless Leon.

This utopian society settlement was the most successful in the area. One of the best parts of visiting Minden is that you can visit the Germantown Colony Museum and learn all about the history here.

The Dorcheat Historical Museum is another great place to explore in the town. It's truly one of the most well designed and kept historic museums in any small town in Louisiana.
