There’s one festival coming up that’s so unique, we guarantee you’ve never seen anything like it before. Let’s take a look at what makes the Acadiana Dragon Boat Races so special.
This family-friendly event aims to bring out the competitive spirit in everyone while having some fun outdoors.
In addition to the racing, there will also be a burger cook-off competition and kid’s zone filled with activities like face painting, fun jumps, games, and more.

The World Championships of Dragon Boat Racing has been held in Hong Kong since 1976, and the International Dragon Boat Federation was formed in 1991 in response to the overwhelming growth the sport has received.
On race day, teams of 20 paddlers and one drummer compete for 1st place. The team’s drummer plays the traditional Hong Kong drum sound which will guide each team. Teams are composed of families, friends, coworkers… just anyone looking to have a fun unique experience.

Once the race begins, the teams will race down Bayou Teche towards the Bridge Street bridge. Winners will be announced with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as a team spirit award, team tent decoration award, best team drummer award, and the new burger cook-off champion will all be announced at the closing ceremony.

The festival takes place on March 24th at 8 a.m. at Bouligny Plaza in New Iberia.
