The 150 acres over at West Monroe’s park feature playgrounds, tennis courts, a dog park, and much more. The scenic trails and the gardens are an absolute delight to walk through, with many benches peppered throughout so you can sit back and admire the beautiful views.

You’ll find Briarwood tucked away in the Kisatchie National Forest. The former home of renown botanist Caroline Dormon is open to the public March through May, August, and November. During the guided tour you’ll learn about the history of this amazing woman, how she was instrumental in preserving Louisiana’s only national forest, and the indigenous plants in the area.

Located in DeSoto Parish, this chapel was built in 1891 by Carmelite monks when there was a monastery nearby. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the monastery in 1904, but this little chapel survived and has stood the test of time. You can find the chapel at 1746 Smithport Rd., Mansfield, LA 71052 and if you head over to the DeSoto tourist bureau beforehand, they’ll give you a key to the gate so you can go inside the chapel.
