1. The Woodlands Conservancy
You’ll find the Woodlands over in Belle Chasse, just outside of New Orleans. This natural paradise includes 12 miles of trails to enjoy complete with canals, wetlands, and tons of wildlife. The 630-acre bottomland hardwood forest is very popular for birdwatching, or utilizing their horseback riding trails. 2. Indian Creek Recreation Area
Nestled within the Alexander State Forest, Indian Creek Recreation Area includes more than 100 acres for recreation, 200 acres of primitive camping and more than 5 miles of lakefront views of the beautiful 2,250 acre Indian Creek Reservoir. 3. Alligator Lake Recreation Area
This family friendly recreation park has tennis courts, party pavilions, boat launches, fishing, playgrounds, and trails to explore. 4. Betty Virginia Park
Visitors to this 23-acre hidden gem in Shreveport can enjoy the lovely walking trail and wide open spaces perfect for laying out on a blanket and enjoying the outdoors. Find it at 3901 Fairfield Avenue, Shreveport, LA 71106.
5. Sam Houston Jones State Park
Nature lovers will absolutely love the 1,087 acres of ponds, playgrounds, and picnic areas over at Sam Houston Jones State park in Lake Charles. There are five hiking/biking trails and opportunities to catch a glimpse of deer, bobcats, rabbits, gators, and even bald eagles. It's located at 107 Sutherland Road, Lake Charles, LA 70611.
6. Acadiana Park Nature Station
The goal of the Acadiana Park Nature Station is to reacclimatize people to our natural surroundings through teaching and conservation at this 110-acre facility on the outskirts of Lafayette. The three miles of nature trails here are open every day from dawn until dusk, and they also host a night hike on the last Saturday of each month. 7. Highland Road Community Park
Visitors to Highland Road Community Park will love all of the amenities this park has to offer. Not only can you take advantage of their tennis courts, disc golf, rugby field, and playgrounds, but there is also a boat launch so you can enjoy Fountain and ultimately Bayou Manchac.
