There are dozens of trails in Louisiana offering beautifully scenic views of our waterways, but this one particular trail also has something few other trails do – tree top views! Clocking in at less than eight miles, this trail is rated moderately difficult, but is easy enough to knock out in an afternoon. It’s a great hike for both casual hikers and experienced backpackers – and you can even bring your dog along for the adventure! Let’s take a closer look:

The Kisatchie National Forest is the only National Forest in Louisiana.

Comprised of over 600,000 acres spread over five Ranger Districts, the area is quite popular among hikers, backpackers, and wilderness enthusiasts.
One of the many trails in the forest is the Backbone Trail.

Located just north of Alexandria, this primitive trail is perfect for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature for a few hours.
The main trail is just shy of eight miles, but it’s frequently paired with the Caroline Dormon trail for those looking for a longer hike.
