1. American Rose Center
The Gardens of the American Rose Center is located in Shreveport and is the largest park dedicated to roses in the United States. This 118-acre site was established in 1974 and boasts more than 65 individual rose gardens and 20,000 rose bushes. Peak blooming season begins in the middle of April and lasts until the middle of May, so try to time your visit during these months to see the gardens at their best and brightest. 2. Backbone Trail
Nestled within the Kisatchie National Forest, the Backbone Trail is roughly 10 miles in length and is located near Provencial, Louisiana. This loop trail has a surprising terrain, filled with fairly steep ascents and descents and rocky hills. You’ll get some elevation on this trail, which allows you to have this scenic view pictured above. You’ll be able to see the tree tops and gaze out at the forest for a truly unique view.
3. Jungle Gardens

4. Rip Van Winkle Gardens
Located in the tiny town of Delcambre lies a hidden gem that simply must be seen to be believed. The Rip Van Winkle Gardens sit on a beautiful 15-acre property nestled along Lake Peigneur that will delight your senses. Keep your eye out for the peacocks that roam the area! 5. Chicot State Park
With over 6,400 acres of rolling hills and scenic water views, you could spend an entire weekend at this massive state park and still not see everything. 6. Louisiana State Arboretum
While you’re at Chicot State Park, pop on over to the Louisiana State Arboretum located within the park. 7. Cypremort Point State Park
From the man-made beach to the 100-foot fishing pier, there’s something for everyone at Cypremort Point State Park. The 185-acre property has several cabins if you’d like to make a weekend out of it, and it’s location on Vermilion Bay attracts fisherman and sailboats, making this an ideal spot for outdoorsmen. 8. Kiroli Park

9. Grand Isle
For a day of fun in the sun, head on down to Grand Isle. This beautiful barrier island has seven miles of public beaches to enjoy, perfect for soaking up some sun, reaching for seashells, or doing some shore fishing.
