Delhi is a tiny little town in Richland Parish that’s home to about 2,600 residents. While it may seem like a fly-by town – and we love that about it – it’s actually home to one of the most remote state parks in Louisiana, Poverty Point Reservoir State Park. Don’t be fooled by the size of the town, this state park is huge, and we recommend this destination for anyone looking for an escape to a more natural setting. Many folks call it one of their favorite Louisiana state parks, and we can’t disagree with them. But you’ll want to check it out for yourself.
Poverty Point Reservoir State Park is a 2,700-acre state park not far from the Mississippi/Louisiana border.
There is a 48 slip marina, a boat launch, and a cleaning station all set up for you to catch your record breaking largemouth bass, blue gill, and channel catfish.
I’m usually warning folks of gators, but black bears are on a whole new level. Make sure to keep your pets on a leash, and don’t leave any food out in the open. There are bear-proof receptacles peppered around the park to dispose of your garbage properly.
Poverty Point Reservoir State Park is perfect for a day trip, but if you'd like to extend your stay, there are plenty of RV slots, primitive camping sites...
Visit the Louisiana State Parks website for more information about Poverty Point Reservoir State Park. If you do make a road trip out to this beautiful and remote park, be sure you’ve got all the best road trip snacks!
