The Kisatchie National Forest is one of the best places to go hiking in Louisiana, especially if you’re looking to make a weekend out of it and spend your night backcountry camping. This remote trail in Louisiana is much longer than the typical trails we feature here, and it’s just perfect for the ultimate weekend warrior. Gather up your hiking essentials, because this is one trail you’ll want to come prepared for.
The Sandstone Trail clocks in at almost 28 miles, making it one of the longest hiking trails in Louisiana.
One of the perks of this being a multi-use trail is that the trail is much wider than many of the other trails within the Kisatchie. Not only is it easier to follow the trail, but a wider path is also great for not having to trek through overgrown areas and all the potential critters that you often see on these primitive trails.

As the trail name suggests, the majority of the trail is sand.
Not only is it helpful to keep your pup on a leash for other hikers, but you never know when you'll come across a wild animal. Wild horses, deer, and even black bears all call the forest home, and you wouldn't want your pup to come snout to snout with one of these wild animals.

Camping is allowed on the trail, so feel free to pitch a tent and spend a night under the stars.
