Bikers, hikers, and equestrians will all delight in this impressive hidden gem tucked away in St. Tammany Parish. Louisiana’s only rail-to-trail conversion features an impressive 31-mile paved trail that makes for a great outing with kids or a solo adventure. It’s worth a trip from any corner of the state, so let’s check it out.
Whether you’re just looking for a leisurely stroll or an epic outdoor adventure, the Tammany Trace is a beautifully scenic rail trail that’s perfect for anyone and everyone.
In 1992, the St. Tammany Parish government purchased the abandoned Illinois Central Railroad corridor and paved 31 miles of it, turning railroad trestles into pedestrian bridges and also adding a separate equestrian trail that runs parallel to the Trace in several spots.
