We’re always on the hunt for exciting places to feature that you don’t typically see everyday, and this certainly fits the profile. Perkins Road Community Park is an extreme-sports complex that you’d have to see to believe.
BREC’S Perkins Road Community Park is perhaps one of the most visited parks in Baton Rouge, and there’s a good reason.
Both kids and adults of all ages can find something to do here.
This extreme sports park will keep you busy for hours.
In addition to the walking trails, playgrounds, and grassy fields to lounge around in, this place steps it up when it comes to outdoor activities.
There’s a 35 rock climbing wall...
Climbers must be at least 9 years old for this, but for $5 you can get a day pass and give it your best shot. Think you can make it to the top? Rock Climbing classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays if you’re looking to improve on your skills.
...a BMX track...
Weather permitting, the track is free if you have a link and a helmet, but it’s only $4 if you’d like to rent a bike and give it a go. Just keep in mind a rainy day could keep the park closed for a day or two until it dries out.
...a 30,000-sq. ft. skate park...
Built by California Skateparks, this skate park accommodates skateboards, bicycles, and rollerblades. The skatepark is free to use, but you must provide your own equipment.
... and perhaps the coolest attraction: a 333-meter velodrome.
One of only 15 in the United States, you can rent a bike for $5 and experience this unique activity. There’s also a free training class held each Wednesday from 6:30pm-8pm (weather permitting.)
There are several seating options, so be sure to pack a lunch!
You're going to need your energy after all that exercise.
The biking and walking paths are perfect for a tranquil walk/ride through the park.
Perfect for anyone looking to take a break from the extreme sports for a moment.
And there's a lovely 1.3-acre lake that's periodically stocked, so bring your fishing gear!
So next time you're looking to have an adventure, come out to Perkins Road Community Park.
Everyone is welcome. Just remember to wear your helmet, safety first!
You can find the park at 7122 Perkins Rd, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808.
