Now that Mardi Gras is over, maybe you’re looking for a place to unwind and find a little peace and quiet. We’ve found some of the best places to get away from it all so you can relax and recharge.
1. Poverty Point Reservoir State Park
Who wouldn’t want to wake up to that view? Stay in one of their eight cabins and spend the day exploring the hiking trails, bird watching, or sitting on the dock fishing. 2. Sam Houston Jones State Park
The park has five trails to choose from, two boat launches, cabins for camping, and even an 18-hole disc golf course. Located at 107 Sutherland Road, Lake Charles, LA 70611
3. Barataria Preserve
Just outside of Marrero you can escape to the serene wetlands. The preserve’s 23,000 acres include bayous, swamps, and marshes and you’re sure to see alligators, nutria, rabbits, turtles, and over 200 species of birds. 4. Bird’s Nest on the Cane
Recharge along the beautiful Cane River in Natchitoches. It’s also just minutes from downtown so you can always head into town and grab a bite to eat and do some shopping! Located at 1015 Parkway Drive Natchitoches, Louisiana 71457
5. Maison D’Memoire Bed & Breakfast
Hop on over to the frog capital of the world and relax in one of these adorable cottages. That bench looks like the perfect spot to read that book you’ve been putting off. Located at 8450 Roberts Cove Road, Rayne, LA 70578
6. Chicot State Park
6,400 acres of rolling hills and waterways to explore! Hike the trail surrounding Lake Chicot for a perfectly relaxing afternoon. Located at 3469 Chicot Park Rd, Ville Platte, LA 70586
7. Grand Bayou Outfitters
About an hour north of Natchitoches you’ll find these lovely log cabins. Located on the beautiful Grand Bayou Reservoir, it’s the perfect spot to unwind. You can rent a ski boat to try your wake boarding skills, book a guided fishing trip, or just sit back and relax on the front porch. Located at 310 Rays Camp Rd., Coushatta, LA 71019
8. Holly Beach
Nicknamed "The Cajun Riviera", Holly Beach is a sea sheller’s heaven. You can drive onto the beach for the day and you can also bring a tent and camp out on the beach! Perfect place to stargaze while listening to the crashing waves. You can find Holly Beach in Cameron, Louisiana, drive along Gulf Beach Hwy.
9. Palmetto Island State Park
Located on the Vermillion River, you can hike down the Cypress Trail which is just shy of a mile long, or rent a canoe and sail down the tranquil interior lagoon. Located at 19501 Pleasant Road Abbeville, LA 70510
10. White Sands Lake Day Beach
Sink your toes in the sand while the kids play on the inflatable water slides, trampolines, teeter-totters, and other water attractions. The beach doesn’t open until May, but in the meantime you can rent a kayak and cruise through the lake. Located at 52129 Sandstone Blvd, Franklinton, LA 70438
11. St. Tammany Trace
28 miles of paved walkway spanning through five cities: Covington, Mandeville, Abita Springs, Lacombe, and Slidell. Perfect for bicycles, rollerbladers, or pedestrians. There’s also a parallel equestrian trail so you can ride your horse! There’s multiple trail heads so you can access the Trace from multiple points.
