4. Homer
This hidden gem located in northern Louisiana in Claiborne Parish is full of history and outdoor adventures. Head over to Lake Claiborne State Park for some good old fashion outdoor fun. The freshwater lake is stocked with bass, catfish, crappie, perch, and many others. Lake Claiborne is also great for waterskiing or enjoying a day on the boat, or relaxing on the beach. There are several hiking and biking trails to explore, and even an 18-basket disc golf course.
5. St. Francisville
Tucked away in the rolling hills of West Feliciana Parish, St. Francisville is a picture-perfect way to spend a weekend outside. Not only are there several plantations you can tour or lodge at (including one of the most haunted plantations in the country), St. Francisville also boasts a charming main street that’s a wonderful place to do some shopping or dining. Cat Island National Wildlife Refuge is also in St. Francisville, which offers tons of outdoor adventures from fishing and hunting to nature walking and wildlife viewing.
6. Pioneer
You may have never heard of Pioneer, but that’s all about to change. Pioneer is home to Poverty Point, a World Heritage Site almost 3,500 years old. Spend some time walking through Poverty Point learning about these early settlers and see the artifacts and relics archaeologists have discovered. Afterward, check into Poverty Point State Park in Delhi and explore their hiking trails. There are eight cabins, 54 campsites, fishing opportunities, and more!
