With a population that hovers just under 20,000, you wouldn’t normally consider Natchitoches as a small town, but Louisiana’s oldest city maintains a small-town charm that attracts visitors from all over the world, especially during the holidays. The Natchitoches Christmas Festival is one of the most cherished holiday events in Louisiana, and one of the few where you can still experience an old-fashioned Christmas.
The Natchitoches Christmas Festival has been a tradition since 1927.
As you stroll along the riverbank to admire the lights, you’ll find several food trucks and vendors peppered around to stop off for light refreshments.
There’s always something to look forward to during the festival, including live entertainment, kid-friendly activities, a lighted boat parade, and more.
The tour is about a mile long and will take about two hours to complete. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes! This is a walkable event only, it’s not one where you can drive from location to location. With that in mind, these tours are at the mercy of the weather, so be sure to check the event website for weather-related information.
Every Saturday night during the festival, keep an eye out for the magical fireworks display over the lake.
Weather permitting, the fireworks show happens every Saturday at 7 p.m.
For more information, including tickets and a full events schedule, visit the Natchitoches Christmas Festival’s website, and don’t forget to give them a follow on Facebook so you can stay up to date on any changes during this holiday season.
