Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you should stay cooped up inside all day. In fact, one of the perks of living in Louisiana is that we don’t experience the harsh winters our northern friends do, so we can play outdoors practically year-round. For a relaxing getaway that will make you feel like you’ve been transported to a tropical island, a visit to Grand Isle State Park is in order. Sinking your toes into the sand while gazing out at the serene Gulf of Mexico sounds like paradise, right? Let’s take a closer look.
Grand Isle State Park might just be the most underrated state parks in Louisiana.
You can camp right on the beach at the state park! There are 14 beach tent campsites that rent for a mere $18 per night and offer the opportunity to fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing onto the shore. Stargazers will especially love camping on the beach since you’ll be far away from those pesky city lights, you’ll be able to see all the beautiful stars in the sky (weather permitting, of course).
Bring your rod and reel and catch yourself some dinner, or just gaze out into the Gulf. It’s not uncommon to see dolphins jumping out of the water, so keep your eyes peeled!
And be sure to climb to the top of the observation tower.
