Even with nearly 400 miles of coastline, Louisiana’s beaches are still considered a bit of a hidden gem. Gulf Coast beaches like Holly Beach and Rutherford Beach offer wonderful opportunities to sink your toes in the sand, snag a few seashells, and even spend a night or two camping right on the beach, but what about northern Louisiana? You may be surprised to learn that there are a handful of beaches in northern Louisiana, and they’re ideal for a day of fun in the sun.
The Caney Creek Reservoir offers endless opportunities for recreational fun in Louisiana.
Located roughly 30 miles southeast of Ruston, Jimmie Davis State Park is the preferred access point for many folks looking to spend a day out on the water.
The swimming area along the beach is roped off and safe from the designated boating area, so feel free to bring an inflatable raft and spend some time floating around.
There's also a spray pad for the youngsters, plenty of picnic benches and shaded areas to enjoy once that Louisiana summer sun starts beating down.
And as you can see, the parking lot is nearby! Say goodbye to those long walks from the car to the beach carrying all of your beach gear. This is a short and sweet (and mostly paved) walk.
After a few hours with your toes in the sand, take a stroll along the water's edge. There are several piers that are perfect for either dropping a line or catching the sunset.
