Now that the weather has warmed up a bit, it’s time to get outside and do some exploring. There are tons of nature trails within driving distance of New Orleans, but few offer the stunning views you’ll see here at Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge.

Head on over to Terrebonne Parish to visit the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge.

Established in 1996, the refuge is 4,619 acres of freshwater marsh and cypress-tupelo swamp.
The refuge provides a habitat for hundreds of animals including waterfowl, wading birds, and neotropical songbirds.

Keep an eye out for gators, snakes, turtles, birds, including the bald eagle.
The refuge is open year-round to the public, however most of the refuge is only accessible by boat.

There is a 2/4 mile long out and back nature trail that will take you through the various habitats, offering stunning views.
