New Orleans may be known as the Big Easy, but New Orleanians are anything but easy. We are a stalwart krewe and some of the toughest people in the country. Here are some examples of New Orleanians perseverance and endurance that all add up to one tough as nails city.

July and August can be pretty brutal, but we don’t let that stop us from passing a good time. We’ll still spend the entire day in the sun attending a festival, walking the streets, or just sitting on our porches sipping sweet tea.

6. We can spend days living off of King Cake

It’s a good thing these delicious sweet treats aren’t popular year round. Carnival season means you load up on King Cakes, enjoying (at least) a slice a day, and it becomes a staple in your diet for 6 weeks. That’s why we all leave the knife in the box, we know we’re just going to eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner until a new king cake shows up on the counter top.
7. From an early age, we are put to the test.

The fleur de lis has become our own little bat signal. We put it in our business logos, decorate our homes with it, and even tattoo it on our bodies permanently. It’s a symbol of the strength of the city, and how tough New Orleanians truly are.
