Winter is the perfect time to get outside and do some exploring. Since we don’t have incredibly harsh winters, it’s not completely unbearable to be outside for long durations of time, and even better, the mosquitoes are kept at bay! When you need a little nature fix, there’s one trail that’s not too far from New Orleans and it’s an absolute must for anyone looking to be surrounded by enchanting swamps and bayous.
You’ll find Barataria Preserve just a 30-minute drive from New Orleans, in Marrero, Louisiana.
This little slice of paradise is a nature lover’s dream. There are multiple trails that will lead you through the preserve’s 23,000 acres, each one more beautiful than the next.
The boardwalk and gravel trails are all under a two miles long, with most of them clocking in at under a mile. Luckily, several of them connect, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.
Whether you're looking for an outdoor adventure the kids will love, or just looking for a quiet solo stroll, Barataria Preserve is a picture-perfect way to spend an afternoon.
