Madisonville is located in St. Tammany Parish, just under an hour away from New Orleans.
This underrated little town of less than 1,000 tends to get overshadowed by nearby cities like Covington and Mandeville, but we promise you, this surprising town makes for an excellent weekend getaway. Nestled along the banks of the Tchefuncte River, Madisonville is a beautifully scenic town that’s perfect for anyone looking to spend some time on the water.
Be sure to visit the Madisonville Historic Museum while you’re there. Located in the town’s old courthouse and jail that was built in 1911, the museum features several displays with Civil War artifacts, Native American artifacts, and historical information about the town.
For nature lovers, a visit to the Fairview-Riverside State Park is an absolute must. This tiny but mighty state park clocks in at just 99 acres, but has tons of sprawling green space and beautiful views of the river.
