The Tickfaw State Park is one of the newer state parks in Louisiana, having been open since 1999. It quickly grew in popularity because of its beautiful scenery and close proximity to both Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

The park features four different ecosystems to explore: a mixed pine-hardwood forest, a bottomland hardwood forest, a cypress-tupelo swamp, and the Tickfaw River.
