These 7 Photos Of An Abandoned Amusement Park In New Orleans Are Hauntingly Beautiful
Six Flags New Orleans has sat abandoned since 2005 after Hurricane Katrina hit. Mother Nature is slowly reclaiming the area, and these photos are hauntingly beautiful. Just remember, the property is off limits, and trespassers will be prosecuted, so don’t even think about paying it a visit!

The original owners, Alfa Smartparks, put the park up for sale in 2001, and the following year it was purchased by Six Flags.

I’m sure we all remember the commercial with the old man dancing, right?

The last day the park was open was August 21, 2005.

Between a combination of the drainage pumps failing, overflow from Lake Pontchartrain, and rainwater, the park saw flooding upwards of 7 feet for over a month.

Other amusement park companies have looked into purchasing the property to give new life to the park, but the deals have all fallen through. There was even talk of the property becoming a public park, a power plant, and even an outlet mall at one point.

The area has been the location for several movies, including Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Jurassic World, and Deepwater Horizon just to name a few.
