While the po’boy has a very special place in our hearts, we need to talk about sandwiches, y’all. In a city where the po’boy is king, the traditional sandwich tends to be a background player in the culinary scene in New Orleans, but not at these special spots. Here, we’ve highlighted some of our favorite sandwiches in the city and where you can find them. We’ve kept the list pretty simple: sandwiches only. No burgers, no hot dogs, no tacos… just good old-fashioned sandwiches. Except these aren’t your average sandwiches…Let’s check it out:
Bratz Y'all has been a local favorite since it opened in 2012, enchanting guests with its lush courtyard, authentic German cuisine, and a wide range of German beers and wines.
This laid-back cafe in the Bywater Neighborhood has some seriously unique sandwiches on its menu. From BBQ tofu to lemon-caper tuna, these certainly aren't your everyday sandwiches.
It's hard to mention sandwiches in New Orleans and not bring up the muffuletta. And when you bring up the muffuletta, you've got to mention Central Grocery, the iconic spot that started it all. They've been cranking out the original since 1906.
Cheese lovers, this one is for you. St. James takes your nostalgic childhood sandwich and turns it on its side. Pictured above is their grilled cheese with real Swiss Gruyere 1655 cheese and caramelized onions. Yes, please!
Just on the edge of the French Quarter, Manolito is an intimate little restaurant with authentic Cuban cuisine and some of the best frozen cocktails in the city.
Quirky and colorful doesn't even begin to describe your experience at Turkey and the Wolf. Their sandwiches are some of the most unique flavor combinations in the city.
