New Orleans is no stranger to up-cycling buildings. When buildings no longer serve their current purpose, you can bet that someone is waiting to turn one man’s trash into another man’s treasure. Just look at how Cowbell on Oak Street turned a former gas station into a quirky eatery. Rosedale Restaurant is one of those places, and it’s worth your while to pay them a visit.
You’ll find Rosedale over in the Navarre neighborhood of New Orleans. This unassuming building may look more like a home than a restaurant, but that’s just one of the unique quirks about this hidden gem that makes it so special.
The building was built in 1936 and originally located near the New Basin Canal. It was moved to its present location in 1951 and has quite the history. Not only was it home to the Girod Asylum, but it was also the former Third District Police Station for over 50 years.
Rosedale opened in 2016 and has been a favorite spot for locals ever since. From the food to the atmosphere, there’s a lot to love about this laid-back restaurant.
The menu features both small and large plates to accommodate every appetite. Their shrimp puppies (pictured below) are always a crowd pleaser and a great starter for the table.
Address: 801 Rosedale Drive, New Orleans, LA, 70124
Rosedale is open Wednesday-Friday from 11 a.m.- till and on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.- till. They also serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m., which features a special Brunch menu that’s constantly evolving.
