They opened their doors in 1911 and remain a New Orleans landmark, over a century later.
Charles Goering, a German baker opened the neighborhood landmark in 1911 and ran it as Parkway Bakery until 1922, when he sold it to Henry Timothy Sr.

Timothy intended on continuing to run the business as a neighborhood bake shop, and it wasn’t until 1929 that he added the "poor boy" to the menu. This recently invented sandwich was added to the menu to feed the American Can Company workers, and quickly became a hit.
The business may have started as a bake shop, but it was their mouthwatering po’boys that kept New Orleanians coming back for more.

After a flood destroyed their brick ovens in 1978, Parkway stopped functioning as a bakery and turned their focus to po’boys, buying all their bread from the Leidenheimer Baking Company.
In 1995, Jay Nix purchased the corner restaurant, and over the next ten years, restored Parkway to its glory days.

He reopened Parkway in 2005, and generations that had enjoyed their delicious po’boys came back as well as new generations of New Orleanians.
