If you have any interest in medical history, then the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum needs to go to the top of your bucket list for 2019. Let’s take a closer look at this incredible hidden gem.

It’s located at 514 Chartres St., New Orleans, LA 70130.

In 1804, Louisiana passed a law that required a licensing exam for pharmacists that wanted to continue to practice their profession. That same year, a board of pharmacists and physicians administered a three-hour oral exam at the Cabildo in Jackson Square, and Dufilho was the first to pass the test.

This tiny but mighty museum has a lot to see, so be sure to take your time as you wander about.

You’ll see hand-blown apothecary bottles filled with medicinal herbs and potions, medical instruments, and so much more.

It’ll certainly give you a greater appreciation for advancements in modern medicine.

Admission is only $5 for adults and $4 for seniors, students, and kids under six years old. They’re open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with guided tours Tuesday through Friday (none on Saturdays.)
