Just about a 30 minute drive from New Orleans, and you’ll find yourself in a beautiful wonderland of incredibly scenic marshes, bayous, swamps, and forests. When you need a break from the city, consider a shot road trip to this amazing nature preserve where you can see endless miles of marsh.

Established in 1907, the preserve’s 23,000 acres are filled with some of the most beautiful natural scenery in Louisiana.

You’ll be able to wander through the endless bottomland hardwood forests, swamps, and marshes.

And it’s also an incredible place to do some wildlife viewing. From alligators to birds and everything in between, keep your eyes peeled and you’re guaranteed to see something.

From the visitor’s center, you’re looking at about a two mile hike.

There are benches nearby to you can just sit back, relax, and take in one of the most beautiful views in southeastern Louisiana.
Barataria Preserve is located at 6588 Barataria Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072.
The Visitor Center is open Wednesday-Sunday 9:30am-4:30pm, but the trails are open daily from 9am-5pm.
