Soon, we will be in the throws of Carnival Season (pun intended), where there will be parades just about every weekend to keep us occupied. We’ve got a long weekend coming up, and it’s just the ticket to get out of the city for a few days and explore a different part of the state. The following destinations are all within a two hour drive, and make for a perfect long weekend with the family.
1. Cypremort Point State Park
One of the few locations near the Gulf of Mexico that can be reached by car, Cypremort Point State Park is a great destination for a long weekend. The man-made beach is great to sink your toes into and read a good book, and the park’s location makes it ideal for fisherman looking to fish in either the Gulf or the Bay. The sunsets here are truly mesmerizing, so consider renting a
cabin and sticking around for a few days. 306 Beach Lane, Cypremort Point, LA 70538.
2. Grand Isle
Just because it’s technically winter doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some beach time. Louisiana’s only inhabited barrier island is a perfect destination for a relaxing weekend. Whether you prefer fishing, birdwatching, or just strolling along the beach, there’s something for everyone at Grand Isle.
3. St. Francisville
If you’re looking to slow things down a bit, then St. Francisville is just the place for you. This charming little town in West Feliciana Parish is jam packed with history, shopping, and delightful restaurants. 4. Tickfaw State Park
If you’re looking for a more of a traditional Louisiana, outdoors experience, then head over to Tickfaw State Park. The boardwalk trails allow visitors to catch a glimpse of four different ecosystems: a cypress-tupelo swamp, a mixed pine forest, a bottomland hardwood forest, and the Tickfaw River. Camping here is a real treat, as you’ll be able to fall asleep to the symphony of sounds from the swamp nightlife. Learn more about Tickfaw State Park in our previous article

5. Avery Island
It may be a 2.5 hour drive, but it’s completely worth the journey. Not only can you tour the famous Tabasco plant and learn all about the history of this famous little red bottle, but you can take a tour through the Jungle Gardens and Bird City for a delightfully peaceful afternoon.
6. Breaux Bridge
Spend some time in the Crawfish Capital of the World for a truly Cajun experience. This small city in St. Martin Parish not only has some of the finest Cajun restaurants in Cajun Country, but also some of the most beautiful scenery around. Head over to Lake Martin for a swamp tour for a one-of-a-kind experience you won’t soon forget. Learn more about Breaux Bridge in our previous article

7. Baton Rouge
There’s something for everyone in Baton Rouge, and it’s such a big city that you’ll need the long weekend to explore all of it.
