1. Louisiana’s Old State Capitol

2. The Myrtles Plantation
Known as the most haunted plantation in the country, a visit to the Myrtles will leave you speechless. Tucked amidst a canopy of ancient oaks, this beautiful antebellum home was built in 1796 and tours are offered daily to learn about the history of the home and the families that lived there. 3. Honey Island Swamp
Named for the honeybees that were once spotted on a nearby island, Honey Island Swamp is one of the least-altered river swamps in the country, and many believe it to be the most pristine swamplands in the United States. The best way to get a glimpse of this beautiful wetland is by boat, and there are numerous tour companies that would love to give you a tour. The swamp is also known for being the home of the legendary Honey Island Swamp Monster, a terrifying creature towering seven feet tall with grey hair and piercing yellow eyes. Are you a believer?
4. Global Wildlife Center
For a truly unique experience, head over to Global Wildlife Center. Home to over 4,000 exotic and endangered animals from all over the world, the Global Wildlife Center is the largest free-roaming wildlife preserve in the country! You’ll ride in a covered wagon and come face-to-face with some of the most exotic animals around, including giraffes, zebras, kangaroos, and countless others.
5. Chauvin Sculpture Garden
Located on Bayou Petit Caillou, the Chauvin Sculpture Garden is a mesmerizing and emotional world-class art exhibit that must be seen to be believed. 6. Kliebert’s Turtle & Alligator Farm
This family owned and operated business is currently in its third generation and you can tell that the Kliebert’s are truly passionate about that they do. 7. Laurel Valley Village Plantation
Containing nearly 60 original structures, the Lauren Valley Village Plantation is the largest surviving 19th and 20th century sugar plantation complex left in the country. 8. Abita Springs Mystery House
Quite easily the most intriguing attraction to make the list, a trip to the Abita Springs Mystery House is not to be missed. Tiny but mighty, this charming little museum is filled with thousands of founds objects, homemade items, and what some would consider to be pure junk. 9. USS Kidd
Dubbed the "Pirate of the Pacific," the USS Kidd is a Fletcher-class destroyer that was launched in 1943 and todays sits docked on the Mississippi River in downtown Baron Rouge. 10. HJ Smith & Sons General Store
Nestled in the historic downtown area of Covington, this general store dates back to 1876, making it one of the oldest continuously operating businesses on the northshore. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported through time when you walk in, and you’ll find some incredible things at this part museum part general store.
