Not too long ago, alligators were on the brink of extinction. Luckily, they were taken off the endangered species list in 1987 and thanks to conservation efforts, their numbers have steadily increased over the years. With numbers reaching close to two million, Louisiana is home to the largest population of alligators in the United States.
