There are countless plantations located between Baton Rouge and New Orleans along historic River Road, each one more beautiful than the next. As you drive through plantation country, make sure you stop by Houmas House, a resorted sugarcane plantation that has one of the most impressive gardens in Louisiana. Springtime is just around the corner, making it the perfect time to visit this picture-perfect spot. Let’s take a closer look.
Located in the tiny town of Darrow, the Houmas House Plantation was built in 1840 and is one of the most visited plantations on River Road.
There are several sitting areas where you can sit for a spell underneath the majestic oak trees while listening to the symphony of sounds from the songbirds nearby.
