Well, it’s that time again! 4th of July in New Orleans is upon us. Of course, the annual Essence Festival is going to descend on the city that weekend, bringing in another round of incredible acts to entertain the crowds. This year, Mariah Carey and Kendrick Lamar headline alongside Maxwell and Jeremih. But if you weren’t lucky enough to snag Essence Festival tickets, don’t worry. There is plenty of other things to do in and around New Orleans to celebrate independence day–including a number of fireworks displays! Here are 6 of the biggest events going on in the city that weekend.
If you’ve ever lived in New Orleans before, there’s a good chance you found yourself at the river come 9ish on July 4th. The "Dueling Barges" fireworks display is simply gorgeous, and crowds start gathering early to ensure they have a great spot. Tune into WWL 870 while you watch to hear patriotic classics while the fireworks go off.
2) Go 4th to Crescent Park, Crescent Park, Monday July 4th
As Crescent Park slowly but surely establishes a place among the favorite parks of New Orleanians, they will be hosting another public event the evening of the fireworks from 5pm – 10pm. Food trucks, drinks, and a DJ dance party will be kicking off on the Mandeville Wharf to allow for fireworks viewing.

3) Uncle Sam Jam, Lafreniere Park, Sunday July 3rd
From 2:45 until 9:30, the annual Uncle Sam Jam in Lafreniere Park will be kicking off with five live musical acts, food, and of course, an awesome Fireworks show! It’s awesome to see the park lit up like that, and it’s such a gorgeous park as it is. 3000 Downs Blvd, Metairie
4) Fourth of July Celebration on the Lake, Mandeville, Monday July 4th
Since the ending of the annual Mandeville Seafood Festival, 4th of July celebrations on the Northshore have shifted, now taking place at the Mandeville Lakefront between Coffee and Carroll Streets. Families are welcome to bring their own picnics starting early in the morning, and the food court will open at 4pm as the bands get going. It’s definitely going to be a great time!
Now in its 19th year, the Slidell Heritage Festival is an awesome place to spend your 4th of July weekend. Leroux and The Molly Ringwalds will be rocking out as food and drinks will be flowing. The festival also serves as a charity drive, as the $10 entry fee goes to a number of local Slidell charities. Starting at 4pm, fireworks at 9pm, at Slidell Heritage Park.
The Marine Corps Band will entertain revelers on the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn, followed by a fireworks display around the Peristyle. This could very well be one of the most picturesque places to catch fireworks in all of New Orleans! The festivities kick off around 7pm.
