Anyone who has lived in New Orleans for a while knows how important it can be to get away from it all from time to time. If all you have is a car, you are in luck. There are some beautiful drives you can take from New Orleans that will transport you to a whole different world of Louisiana. Here are three of them.

1) LA-1 South from Luling

Travel Down Hwy 90 until you reach LA-1 and you'll be treated to a long and winding drive down LA-1 to Grand Isle. You'll reach the LaRose bridge, pictured here, right before Cut Off, LA.
As you travel down this highway, you'll see many marshes and wetlands along the way.

There will also be plenty of birds to see on your drive!
Eventually you'll reach Grand Isle, and if you plan it right, just in time for a beautiful sunset.

2) River Road South

If you want another excursion where you reach the Gulf of Mexico, take River Road south towards Port Sulphur. Stella Plantation, pictured here, will be one of your first stops.

3) River Road North

The third relaxing drive you could take is up river towards Baton Rouge on River Road, where you will see a large number of restored plantation homes. Destrehan plantation is one of the closest to New Orleans.
Just down river is San Francisco Plantation, pictured here, one of the most ornate homes in the area.
