New Orleans City Park was created in 1854, and attracts roughly five million visitors every year. This 1,300 acre public park is filled with dozens of attractions that cater to both kids and adults alike, and it’s no wonder it’s one of the most visited urban public parks in the country. We’ve found some amazing photographs of this lovely park to share, so let’s take a walk down memory lane.

1. When City Park first opened in 1854, it extended about 100 acres back from City Park Avenue (originally Metairie Road). It wasn’t until 1891 that the City Park Improvement Association was founded, and the area was officially established as City Park.
