The carousel dates back to 1906 but some of the animal figures date back even further to 1885. The animals were carved and hand painted by Charles Loof and Charles Carmel, and they get so much use they are repainted by hand every year or so. The carousel is only one of 100 hand-carved carousels remaining in the United States, and it’s the only one of its kind in Louisiana.

Built in the 50s, Storyland is made up of about 25 larger than life sculptures featuring your favorite classic fairy tale and nursery rhyme characters. Your kids eyes will light up when they get to play on Cinderella’s magical pumpkin carriage, or Captain Hook’s pirate ship.

The garden holds more than 60 sculptures spanning five acres. These amazing sculptures are nestled along wandering footpaths, water features, and those notorious ancient oak trees. After you’ve strolled through the garden, be sure to check out the New Orleans Museum of Art, which houses more than 40,000 pieces from French and American art, Japanese works, photography, and glass.
