What are some of the best scenic hikes in New Orleans?

Louisiana – and New Orleans – isn’t exactly known for its crazy, off-the-wall mountains, gorges, canyons, or other challenging landscapes. As a result, though, we get amazing scenic hikes in a unique place that we can’t really find anywhere else in the country, and many of them are in or near New Orleans. We have several suggestions if you’re looking to take a hike in New Orleans anytime soon, like the Audubon Park Loop in historic uptown New Orleans; it’s just under two miles long (1.9 miles) and is an easy stroll around a truly wonderful park. Then, there’s the famed French Quarter River Walk, at Woldenberg Riverfront Park, which is 1.3 miles long and takes hikers past the location of what was once the 1984 World’s Fair. Next, check out the Couturie Forest at City Park; this one’s also easy, and at just over one mile in length, almost anyone can do it. It’ll lead you through a 60-acre forest filled with native trees and wildlife! Finally, try out the Lafitte Greenway hike at Louis Armstrong Park; that one’s the longest on this list, at 4.6 miles in length, but like the others it’s still easy, lovely, and green.

What are the most popular easy hikes in Louisiana?

Well, honestly, almost every single hike in Louisiana is an easy one; the ones all listed in the paragraph above are easy, and so are the ones we’re about to mention. Check out the Cane Bayou Track within Fontainebleau State Park for 4.4 miles of brackish marsh, fishing holes, and a spectacular saltwater lake finish. Then, embark upon the Palmetto, Bayou Coquille and Marsh Overlook at Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve. It’s a delightful, shady trek where you can call a certain phone number at certain points in the hike and get a brief oral history of the area. At just 4.2 miles long, it’s a great day hike. Other favorite hikes in Louisiana include the Driskill Mountain Trail near Bienville (1.8 miles long) and, of course, a walk through the famed French Quarter up to Jackson Square is always in order.
