New Orleans is known for many foods, and po’boys are just the tip of the iceberg. Countless restaurants around the city have made a name for themselves as having some truly delicious po’boys, like Parasol’s, Domilise’s, or R & O’s in Metairie. This one long-standing restaurant in New Orleans has a roast beef po’boy that’s so good, we’ve crowned it the best in New Orleans, and you need to check it out.
Parkway Bakery and Tavern first opened their doors in 1911.
In its earliest days, Parkway was a neighborhood bake shop run by owner Charles Goering, Sr. and then Henry Timothy Sr., when he purchased the shop from Goering in 1922.
They began selling po’boys in 1929 after the streetcar workers strike and they’ve been slinging hearty po’boys ever since.
You’re going to need plenty of napkins for this one. Their signature po’boy features a healthy amount of their slow roasted roast beef, soaked in brown gravy and dressed to your liking.
A roast beef po'boy, pickle chips, and a healthy portion of their incredible bread pudding soaked in their signature cream rum sauce sounds like a lunch you could only get in New Orleans.
Parkway Bakery & Tavern is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Monday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Address: 538 Hagan Avenue, New Orleans, LA, 70119
