Winter is the perfect time of year to set off on a swamp tour because you’ll have all of the beautiful views without all of the sweltering heat and pesky bugs. Since we don’t have very harsh winters, spending the day out on the water is a picture-perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon with the family.
Ready for an adventure? Well, you’re in luck because Adventures of Jean Lafitte is ready to take you for a spin on the swamps of Louisiana’s beautiful backcountry.
During your tour, you’ll have the opportunity to explore over 20,000 acres of beautiful tidewater cypress swamp from the safety of one of their pontoon boats.
You’ll get up close and personal with the swamps and bayous and you’ll have a knowledgeable captain who grew up in the area telling you all about the history of the land and the importance of these wetlands.
You’ll also want to keep your eyes peeled for wildlife. You’ll have the opportunity to see alligators, snakes, turtles, egrets, herons, and maybe even a hawk or a bald eagle.
When you get back to land, be sure to check out Sugar, their resident albino alligator. It’s not every day you get to see one of these majestic creatures!
Adventures of Jean Lafitte is located about 40 minutes from New Orleans, but they do offer transportation to and from any hotel in the greater New Orleans area.
