If you find yourself in Northern Louisiana looking for a taste of New Orleans, then you have to pop over to this historic restaurant. This iconic eatery has been around for more than 90 years and we promise the sandwiches are absolutely worth the wait in line.
Fertitta’s Delicatessen first opened in 1927. Not only was it the first Italian grocery in the city, but it’s also the oldest continuously operated restaurant in Shreveport.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this humble little mom-and-pop-shop is incredibly casual. The nostalgic atmosphere makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
Fertitta’s is known for the muffy, their own unique spin of the popular New Orleans sandwich, the muffuletta. Be prepared to fall in love at first bite.
Instead of Italian cold cuts, which are traditionally found in the classic muffuletta, the muffy uses American cold cuts and cheeses, mustard instead of olive oil, and a much thinner bread than their New Orleanian counterpart.
What truly makes this sandwich pop is their house-made olive mix. The sandwich is then toasted until the cheese is perfectly melted and the bread is nice and toasty.
