This particular nature preserve features multiple boardwalks and dirt trails that the whole family will love, and at the end of one of them lies a magnificent overlook that’s absolutely worthy of an adventure. Barataria Preserve is located in Marrero and is part of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park & Preserve.

When you arrive, stop off at the Visitor’s Center for to learn about the history of the area, the many different species of wildlife that call the region home, and to pick up a trail map.
All of the trails are fairly short in length, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.

The Visitor Center Trail is only a quarter-mile long and is great for kids.
As you stroll through the preserve’s 23,000 acres, you’ll be mesmerized by the beauty of this untouched natural paradise.
