Louisiana isn’t exactly known for its towering mountain ranges, but there is one trail that will give you the feeling of soaring above the landscape.
Longleaf Vista Interpretive Trail is one of the more popular and scenic hikes in the state, but it’s not necessarily the easiest. Here’s what you need to know.
Longleaf Vista Interpretive Trail is located in Kisatchie National Forest, near Gorum.
This trail is rated as “moderate,” meaning it presents a bit of a challenge but shouldn’t be too tough for most hikers. It’s a quick hike measuring just about a mile and a half long.
As you make your way to the top of the trail, you’ll pass fascinating plant life and pretty wooded areas. The trail is mostly flat until you reach the overlook, but you should be prepared for some uneven ground.
Towards the end of the trail, you’ll be met with a set of winding steps that will take you up to the overlook. These steps can get slippery in the rain or after an icy evening, so watch where you put your feet.
The view from the overlook is truly magical. You’ll feel as if you’re at the top of the world. Feel free to pause here and take a few photos, or enjoy a snack amongst the trees.
This hike is accessible year-round, though most people like to tackle it in the drier months. You can be sure of great views no matter what month you visit.
