There’s a little-known lake in Louisiana that’s perfect for anyone looking to get away from it all. Now, if you’re from the Greater Alexandria Area then you’re probably very familiar with this little slice of paradise. But for the vast majority of Louisianians, this place is a hidden gem. Especially if you want to go kayaking or canoeing. 

Valentine Lake often gets overshadowed by its nearby neighbor, the Kincaid Reservoir, but in my opinion, Valentine Lake is easily worth your time.

This beautiful lake is tucked away within the Kisatchie National Forest and in a fairly remote area, perfect for an outdoor adventure.
On the south side of the lake, Valentine Lake Recreation Area offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the 46-acre lake.

There is plenty of parking, several picnic tables, and even a nature trail that meanders alongside the lake. If you're really feeling adventurous, you can tackle the Azalea Trail, the longest primitive trail in Louisiana. Valentine Lake is one of the trailheads for this 24-mile trail, and if you do decide to hike it, I’d recommend getting an AllTrails+ account.
One of the best ways to explore this area is from a canoe or a kayak.

Canoe access is drag/carry from the boat launch, and you will need to bring your own vessel. There are no rentals available, unfortunately!
