Kayaking and/or canoeing can be a great way to explore Louisiana’s beautiful waterways at your own speed. Lake Martin in particular happens to be one of the most gorgeous lakes in Louisiana, and you can rent a canoe or a kayak and spend some time on the lake, traversing through the cypress knees and lazy waterways. Let’s check it out.
You’ll find Lake Martin on the outskirts of Breaux Bridge in the heart of Cajun Country.
There’s a walking trail that will take you along the edge of the lake, plus you can drive around most of the lake, so you can check out the views without ever leaving your car!

One of the most common ways to experience Lake Martin is with a swamp boat tour.
Champagne’s Swamp Tours is one of the best in the business, and they’ll take you all around the lake and surrounding waterways, teaching you all about the history and importance of this beautiful ecosystem.
For $15 per hour, you can rent one of the canoes and kayaks and set off on an aquatic adventure where you’ll get to experience the lake from an entirely new perspective.
Birdwatchers will especially enjoy getting to spot herons, anhinga, egrets, and other wading birds. Lake Martin is home to one of the largest bird rookeries in the state, so you'll be in bird heaven as you paddle through!
