Known for having an intriguing history, the state of Louisiana features a great deal of historic locations that are accessible to visit. But if you’re looking to enjoy the stories of our captivating past in some place other than a stuffy museum, then perhaps we have just the right spot for you to check out. Just one of many gems hiding in plain sight in our French Quarter, one of the oldest pieces of America’s history can be found within arm’s reach.
Something we encourage you to cross off of your bucket list, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop opened up back in 1772.
Equipped with a family name that you'll see around the city of New Orleans, the tavern was built by Jean and Pierre Lafitte in an attempt to mask their illegal practices.
A historically unique style building, Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1970 to preserve this fascinating location for generations to come.
It's not too often that we get to see eye-catching and alluring locations like this that have been so well preserved over their long lifetime. And considering just how long this tavern has been around, you probably won't be too surprised to hear that there are a few ghost stories about this place floating around amongst locals. These folks serve great tasting beverages in a beautifully historic site, and you can find out more information about Lafitte's if you click here.
