Formerly world renowned botanist Caroline Dormon’s home, the property is open to the public in March, April, May, October, and November and it’s certainly worth your while to pay them a visit. Take a stroll through the grounds to view several different species of wildflowers, do a little bird watching, and enjoy the views of the reflective pool.

This lesser known state park in Madisonville is perfect for a quick outdoors fix. Enjoy a lunch beneath a canopy of oak trees, spend some time on the Tchefuncte River, or take a walk down the nature trail. The trail is only a quarter of a mile, so it won’t take up too much of your time. The Otis House is also located in the park, and you’ll see it when you arrive. Built in the 1880s, the museum offers tours so you can walk through and see this well preserved home.

Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy a beach trip. Holly beach is located in Cameron and it’s a perfect spot to spend the day. The beach is pretty secluded, so you won’t have to worry about the crowds like you would in Florida, and the beach is perfect for seashelling! You can also drive right on the beach, and camping on the beach is allowed so if you want to make a weekend out of it, don’t forget your tent!

Take a tour of their winery, see the grape fields, and of course, enjoy a tasting of some of their specialties.
