1. Hotel Bentley
Opened in 1908, the hotel is said to be haunted by several ghosts. One is the man who built the hotel, Mr. Joseph Bentley, who is said to haunt the top floor of the hotel. It’s also believed that the ghosts of a woman who died by falling through an elevator shaft still haunts the hotel, and a man who fell down the grand staircase. Staff and guests have reported seeing figures near the grand staircase, only to disappear a split second later. (200 Desoto St., Alexandria, Louisiana 71301)
2. Myrtles Plantation
Built in the 1700s, the Myrtles Plantation is known as the most haunted plantation in the country. It’s said to be haunted by a few different ghosts, most notably the ghost is Chloe, a slave who used to live at the plantation and was killed after trying to kill the owner of the plantation. You can rent a room and stay the night in the plantation and see if you experience anything unusual. (7747 U.S. Highway 61, St. Francisville, LA 70775)
3. Muriel’s Restaurant
The restaurant may have opened in 2001, but the history of the building goes back much further than that. After the Great New Orleans Fire destroyed the building in the late 1700s, Pierre Antoine Lepardi Jourdan spend years restoring the property and transforming it into his dream home. Unfortunately, he lost the home in a poker bet in 1814. Rather than pack his belongings and move out of the home he spent so much time and money rebuilding, he committed suicide on the second floor. It’s believed that Mr. Jourdan still haunts the building, and they even have a table set nightly for him. You can reserve that table, if you dare to dine with a ghost. 4. Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop
This New Orleans bar was built around 1722, and was possibly used by the infamous Lafitte brothers for their smuggling operation. Some believe that Lafitte hid his treasure in the fireplace, although no one has ever found it. There have been multiple unexplained phenomena here, including reports of seeing a gentleman in the corner of the bar that vanishes in to thin air, glasses moving on their own, and perhaps the most frightening… Glowing red eyes coming from the fireplace. The second floor of the bar is also reported to be haunted by the ghost of a female who likes to whisper in people’s ears. (941 Bourbon St., New Orleans, LA 70116)
5. Shreveport Municipal Auditorium
This National Historic Landmark has seen some of the biggest names come through its doors, like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Presley. While it’s not haunted with the ghosts of country music’s past, staff have reported seeing a young girl in a blue dress in the auditorium, as well as doors opening and closing on their own. Schedule a tour and see for yourself. (705 Grand Ave., Shreveport, LA 71101)
6. The Old State Capitol Building
The Old State Capitol was once used as a hospital and a prison during the Civil War, so it’s understandable that some lost souls may still linger around. Reports of motion detectors going off when there is no one in the building, footprints, and disembodied voices are just some of the strange occurrences that have been reported here. (100 North Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70801)
